PSAC Regional Youth Committee
The Yukon Regional Youth Committee is made up of members, aged 30 and under, that belong to the Public Service Alliance of Canada.
Our current goals and mandate are to ensure that young members have their interests represented at the bargaining table, have appropriate representation during times of grievance, amongst other activities that we're involved with, such as fund raising and giving back to our communities, social justice/activism (debates, rallies and other political action relating to issues that affect or are important to our demographic), networking, and union education. We’re also here to ensure that the union becomes more relevant to the young people in the workforce.
You can become active by signing a union card (if you haven’t already done so), attending meetings (you’re welcome to attend by telephone!), and of course, taking advantage of any education to enrich your understanding of the union, its structure, and your role within the same.
Presently, the Yukon Regional Youth Committee is building a profile within the community. People are recognizing us as a viable option for networking and lending support. Allies are generally a two way street, and with that said, if we build strength with our community and with our allies, when we need their support, they'll readily offer it.
Some of our current initiatives include:
- Developing a formal mandate and committee Terms of Reference;
- Drafting a Resolution to go to Local, Regional and National Conventions to ensure that youth become a constitutionally recognized equity group (nationally);
- Succession planning within the Union and working toward the same with our work environments; and
- Project: 2 Front Teeth (A used toy drive; our goal is to be able to provide 20 gifts to each Yukon community for children and youth who are less fortunate.)
