Upcoming TALKING UNION BASICS (TUB) IN IQALUIT

The Talking Union Basics course, which is the union's key introductory course has been scheduled for Iqaluit, November 6th & 7th.

If you have wondered what it means to be a union member, how the PSAC works, and what happens to your dues dollars, then Talking Union Basics provides answers to these questions. The course also introduces the collective agreement, your employee rights and your rights as a member of the PSAC. You will learn about the many opportunities to be active in the union and ways you can make a contribution to building strong locals in your region. It is recommended that members take Talking Union Basics first, as it provides the basic knowledge you need to get the most from other PSAC courses.

For details regarding the course, please click on the following link entitled "TUB Poster Iqaluit". To register please complete either the English or the Inuktitut-English registration form and submit to Alex Stuit, Regional Representative, Iqaluit Regional Office at stuita@psac.com or to Barb Fayant, Administrative Assistant at fayantb@psac.com .

Labour Day BBQ at Sylvia Grinnel Park-Iqaluit, Nunavut. (Sept 6, 2010)

This year's Labour Day BBQ was very well attended (over 350 people showed up). Whether it was the savory talents of the cooks or the incredible, sunny, 20 degree weather (or a combination of both), fun was had by all and the event was a resounding success.

The event was sponsored by the Northern Territories Federation of Labour (NTFL)in partnership with the Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) Iqaluit Regional Office and the Nunavut Employees Union (NEU). Over 150 hot dogs and 175 burgers were served to a hungry and appreciative crowd.

NTFL Nunavut Vice President Brother Geoff Ryan addressed the crowd and spoke to the history of Labour Day. Other union officials seen volunteering included brother John Vandervelde (RVP Baffin-NTFL) and Brothers Wade Morrisson (1st VP-NEU) and Wes Smith (2nd VP-NEU). Brother Bill Fennell, NEU Local 005 president and Sister Elayne Wyatt, AFTP Nunavut Chair and Brian Boutilier (NEU exec. Director) also assisted in the event.

"Think Public" bandanas, frisbees and pamphlets were handed out along with NTFL recyclable bags.

Thank you to all the volunteers who assisted, without you this event would never have been so successful.

Yours in Solidarity,

Brother Alex Stuit (PSAC Iqaluit Regional Rep)
